GOV. RITTER SUPPORTS EPA DECISION ON GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

Gov. Bill Ritter today voiced his support for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposed finding that emission of greenhouse gases are endangering public health and welfare.

"This is a welcome and long overdue step by the Environmental Protection Agency. I am convinced that climate change is not only real but one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. We must begin putting in place a sound and thoughtful national policy to address this problem, and today's announcement is an important step in that direction.

"The state of Colorado, like many other states, has put in place a Climate Action Plan, and we look forward to working with the EPA and Congress to make our country a leader on this issue. Our success with the New Energy Economy shows that by focusing on renewable resources, efficiency and natural gas we can significantly reduce emissions, create jobs and strengthen the economy."
